How to Clean the Water Tank Correctly

Clean the Water Tank – Ignoring the cleanliness of the water tank is the same as inviting disease into our bodies. This is because a dirty water tank or water tower is a favourite place to live for germs that usually live in water, such as the bacteria that causes diarrhea, namely E. Coli.

In addition to inviting disease, dirt such as plaque due to excessive mineral levels in ground water or well water, as well as sediment in the form of sand and mud can also clog pipelines. So, the water flow to the house becomes small or clogged.

Therefore, your water tank or water tower needs to be drained regularly, at least every 4-6 months. If you use a water filter before the water enters the tank and use a mildew-free and anti-bacterial water tank such as the Rotamould4 series from Penguin, the drain time will be longer because the sediment is already filtered out and mildew will not grow in the tank.

To clean the water tank, you can use the services of a water tank cleaner or you can do it yourself. For those of you who want to drain the water tank yourself, here we explain how to drain the water tank properly :

Prepare Tools and Materials Before Clean the Water Tank

Before draining the tank, prepare the following tools and materials:

  • Cleaning cloth (microfiber) or sponge. Do not use a harsh brush as this can damage the inner lining of the tank or water tank
  • Food-grade cleaning liquid such as dishwashing liquid
  • Leg cloth

CLOSE THE OUTLET HOLE THAT LEADS TO THE IN-HOUSE DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL

After the tools and materials are ready, the next correct way to drain the water tank is to close the water tank outlet hole that leads to the distribution channel in the house. This is so that the dirt during draining does not enter the channel leading to the house.

REMOVE THE TANK ACCESSORIES

For tanks below 2,000 liters, you should first remove accessories such as plumbing kits from the water tank to make cleaning easier. If you are using radar, then turn off the pump power cable to prevent short circuits.

For those of you who use certain water tanks, the piping removal process may be very practical because the water tank plumbing kit has a nut (union valve) on the inlet and outlet fittings. So, it can be installed and removed just by turning it.

START CLEANING THE INSIDE OF THE WATER TANK USING A WIPE

If there is still water in the tank, don’t throw it away. Open the drain hole, leaving only half a tank of water for rinsing. Then, pour the cleaning liquid onto a rag or sponge and start cleaning the tank from the very top.

Once the top is clean, continue cleaning the middle. For large tanks, clean them with a rag so you don’t have to enter the tank. After cleaning, reopen the drain hole until the water is reduced to the bottom of the tank.

Then, clean the bottom of the tank with a rag too. After that, drain with clean water by turning on the pump so that the water is filled so that all the dirt is lifted up and thrown into the drain hole.

CLEAN THE OUTSIDE OF THE WATER TANK OR WATER TOWER

Finally, the last step to clean the water tank, don’t forget to also clean the outside of the water tower using a cloth or material. Although the inside of the tower is clean, the outside of the water tower also affects the aesthetics of the exterior of the house.
