You definitely don’t want to have luxurious but dirty jewelry right?, even though it’s very easy to clean yourself with simple equipment at home in a short time.
Here are some basic tips for cleaning gold jewelry yourself at home.
1. Clean Microfiber Cloth
Based on expert recommendations, use a quality microfiber cloth every time you clean jewelry. Microfiber is believed to be able to clean your jewelry without leaving the slightest scratch that will reduce the luxury value of your jewelry. Indeed, in addition to microfiber cloths, paper towels can also clean your jewelry, but they are not optimally clean.
2. Don’t use Toothpaste
So many people use toothpaste to clean jewelry that the results are not satisfactory. Jewelry experts say that using toothpaste to clean jewelry is a big mistake because toothpaste contains small, coarse particles that can scratch and damage precious metals and stones.
3. Clean Natural Stone & Pearl
Pearls and natural stones are very sensitive. Conventional cleaning solutions such as vinegar can damage pearls and natural stone, not only damaging the surface but also the deep layers. So, One of the best ways to clean pearls is to use a soft toothbrush and plain water. Soak the natural stone in water, then brush a little and let it dry naturally. To clean pearls, you can also use mild soap without soaking them. Then wipe with a damp cloth and your pearls will look like new.
4. Cleaning Silver and Gold
All types of gold or silver can be cleaned using ordinary cleaners commonly sold in gold or jewelry stores. Whatever cleaner you choose, don’t use a brush as it can scratch the gold or silver. Soak and let stand in the cleaning liquid mixture then rinse and polish with a Microfiber cloth.
5. How to Clean Diamonds
Although diamonds are classified as the strongest precious stones, that doesn’t mean you don’t have to take care of them. If the diamond ring is not as sparkly as it was at the beginning, clean it using these simple tips. Dissolve 1/4 cup of ammonia with 1 (one) cup of lukewarm water (about 50 degrees Celsius). Soak the diamond ring in the liquid for at least 20 minutes. Use a soft toothbrush to remove adhering dirt.
6. Tips for Cleaning Emeralds
Emerald is a soft and fragile stone, so it cannot be cleaned using the diamond cleaning method as above. If you don’t want the emerald to crack, just use plain water and clean it with a microfiber cloth. This cleaning method is also effective for all other gemstones.
